For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! I'm the guy who was trying to purchase the Twilight truck if you saw that thread. I worked on that for almost two years, but in the end, the current owner couldn't part with it. I thought I was done with the 60's C-10's at that point, but they wouldn't let go. I decided since I couldn't have THE Twilight truck, close was good enough so I bought a local 1965 C-10 short bed. At least its red and has power steering a V-8 and TH350 automatic. I'm in the process of adding power drum brakes and eventually A/C. I intend to make it a daily driver, but in my case I'm retired so it's not quite the same as if I were working every day. Mostly errands and doctor appointments and an occasional cruise-in I suppose. So, that's how I got here, now for my question.
As I said, I'm looking to make a driver. The truck I bought had some kind of God awful aluminum wheels and since I'm trying for a reasonable look alike to the Twilight truck I want to go with steel (maybe stock) wheels with center hubcaps. I finally found a set in the local area but the guy mentioned the stock rims are narrow and that tire options are limited for 15" wheels. I did some searching and that does seem to be the case. He mentioned 1970's Blazer rims were a little wider and possibly I could get 16" rims with better tire options. I'm thinking wider tires would be safer in the rain although I'm no speed demon.
Trying to keep with the Twilight look of stock rims and center caps, what are my options? Maybe just as important, where can I find them? Oh, I have six lug axles.
I really appreciate any help. I've tried a bunch of different searches both here and on the Internet, but I don't seem to be able to pose the right question.

Maybe I am naive, but my tire guys recommended the 235 75 R15s for my stock wheels. They have been on for 6 yrs without a worry. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 2,187 Insomniac | | Insomniac Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 2,187 | There was a thread a couple of days ago about a good sale on Goodyear Wranglers at Walmart. 235/75R15 will fit a 6-8 inch rim. Tire specI bought a set of 15" tires recently. One guy told me 15" tires are hard to find now. It will be a special order. blah blah Got my tires at another store.

I've done some more looking and I actually found brand new stock wheels online for $79.99, but I also stumbled across a local guy who might have five stock rims. I'll find out next week. Given that I want to try and stay close to stock center hub caps I think the logical choice is to stay with stock rims. Now, thanks to y'all, I feel confident I can mount a good tire on stock rims. I was surprised to find a lot of tire choices online for 15" wheels, so that's good news as well. Now to find my paint color so I can paint the wheels to match the red truck and I'll be good to go.
I finished the brake job last week which included new wheels cylinders, spring kits, rubber brake lines and brake shoes plus I had all the drums turned. I had to remake the rear steel brake lines too. Going to bleed the brakes and then order a conversion to power brakes with a dual master cylinder. I'm thinking about the Brothers Trucks part for $300. Any one use their kit? I haven't seen Brothers mentioned here, but I had good luck with them when I had my 62 C 10. | | |
