I have a 1978 250 from a C10 that has sprung a coolant leak at a engine block port that has a sensor in it. The port/sensor is located on the drivers side towards rear of engine block under manifold. Does anyone know what this sensor is, whether there is a gasket underneath that I can replace, or, is there a plug I can get to plug it if not going to use the sensor?

Please see attached picture.

That's not a sensor- - - -it's a block heater in a freeze plug hole. Either replace it with a new one, or move a few hundred miles south where you don't spend six months a year with the weather below freezing. If you don't think the engine needs it, just replace it with a regular steel cup plug.

Thanks! I think I need to act on your suggestion of moving south. But in the meantime I will just replace with a plug.

be happy it's the plug hole leaking, easy fix
one of my 235s sprung a leak in nearly the same spot, but right in the side of the casting, just south west of your leaking block heater
it's as if the casting was bad from the factory and just took many years to finally leak
my plan is the butter it up with some JB Weld in the spring time.
