The original water pump lasted from 1953 to 2017. It finally gave out. Probably from inactivity for 16 years. I bought a re-maned from Napa. I put it on, started my truck and it leaked out the shaft, worse than the one I was replacing. So, I returned it and I installed the second one. It lasted about 4 months on the truck. Probably 200 miles total. Started squalling and leaking. Same thing, returned that one, and I installed another one. It lasted for about 6 months. It is now really squalling. Hasn't started leaking yet. I fear it is going seize up, at any time. Hoping to take my original, that I saved, to a local company. Not sure if they are even going to have parts for it. Hopefully, the results are better. The only good news is, I am really fast at changing out a water pump on a 53 3100. Am I alone on this one? I am wondering if all of the re-maned ones out there have been rebuilt to many times. Perhaps the bearings and the seals just don't seat like they should. Any of you out here have any thoughts, advice or recommendations? I would sure appreciate it.

I ran that engine for a few years without any water pump issues. For the past year, I've been running a Chevy 235 with a NAPA short shaft water pump without any problems. There are some recommendations in this thread. Let us know if you come up with a solution. Won't have to pay for and wait for shipping. Plus, if it does have an issue, it a lot better to have a face to face than make a phone call.

Maybe check with them. If they got it once, maybe they can do it again? | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,927 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,927 | Back in '06 I had to get a water pump for my '50 216. I turned in the original GM water pump as a core for a reman pump from NAPA. It was after market, and worked okay. But even then I had the same concern that the remans out there have been rebuilt too many times. I would rather have had a reman GM pump... But, so it goes.
