Would anybody happen to have a good part number for the 351 v6 starter solenoid? I found some that look similar by browsing the internet but that doesn’t mean it is the right one.

Hy 61gmc5000, the numbers you provided are not the starter part number, GM starter part numbers almost always begin 11 and there are no gaps. Unfortunately starters are not identified by engine application in the parts book and one must know the starter number to identify the component parts of that starter. My research has led me to guess that the solenoid for the starter you have is a two screw attachment type GM p/n 1114356, Napa crosses that p/n to their p/ns RAY50503 $16.49, ECH57124 $46.99, MPEST124SB $25.49 The way I interpret Napa's website, any of their part numbers should replace the original solenoid, hope that helps

Okay so that solenoid works excellent, only had to make my own stud to hook up to the starter tab. Seems to build good oil pressure turning over but no fire yet. Tomorrow’s job will be ignition troubleshooting I am going to guess a bad coil or condenser, but could be simple as the points needing a good sanding.

Put in a new condenser, had to use old bracket for clearance of the rotor. Gave the points a good cleaning then gave it a sip of gas then she fired up. Very exciting day, sounds like an old farm tractor. Came home from work to see if she would take off again but no luck. After cranking for a bit I got out to give it a shot of fuel and noticed a glow... The rubber grommet on the starter caught on fire. Could be from the obvious loose connection but could also be from the stud I am using being stainless and not copper... We will see.

WRONG! Use solid copper only for anything carrying current from the solenoid to the starter. A starter runs at the electrical equivalent of a dead short. That piece of stainless is a fire hazard, as you've already discovered.

Do it like GM did originally- - - -use a sleeve made of thick wall copper tubing surrounding the screw between the solenoid and the terminal lug on the starter motor.

Interesting idea, I started looking for a copper standoff but I could easily make a sleeve like that.

I've installed hundreds of them over the past 50-something years.

I buy solid copper round bar in any diameter and length I want on Ebay. I use it to fabricate heat sinks when I'm welding on heat-sensitive components such as rifle bolts when I'm building long range target rifles. With a lathe, a drill press, and some taps and dies, all sorts of possibilities open up.

I found a solution today. Found an old junk torch tip, cut the ends off and drilled it. Results to follow
