OK, I am almost ready to have a Bendix Hydrovac rebuilt and seeking recommendations of who, where, how long it should take and how much it'll take out of my pocket.
My early 47 GMC EC-302 is in rather rough condition and I really could use the power assistance that the Hydrovac should provide. I am currently trying to keep that old rust bucket as original as I can to remind folks of the tools that were used by the "old guys". My great-grandfather got the truck in 1956 and it has been in the family since, although it sat in the barn for 42 years before we finally pulled it out and replaced the master cylinder. The Hydrovac still needs rebuilt.
I was reminded during 2018's Cruisin' the Coast in MS that my power brake mechanism is way out of shape since everything else I drive actually has power brakes and my legs just don't do anything that strenuous anymore! Especially since I had a triple discectomy in July!
I had a few close calls this year where idiots cut in front of me and stopped, totally ignoring the fact that I was leaving a safe distance for my braking - until they cut in front! Um, folks, there are reasons I am not going real fast and it is not necessarily just because the truck won't!
A carb rebuild had it running pretty good this year. Several folks hand-crank started it and had to be told to stop cranking because it was running - they just didn't hear it! It was pretty amazing to hear that old 236 purr like it did this year!
Anyway, does anybody know who instantly does great work super cheap? lol
