Not sure about the paint but that step-by-step is a real laugh. | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 443 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 443 | I spoke to a Azko Nobel rep a few weeks ago and was asking about urethane, enamel & lacquer for my 57. I was told lacquer is history because of clean air & other regulations.Maybe its state regulations, but I think its probably federal.
Yeh, there are just a few steps missing in the DIY painting, like SANDING, removing mouldings, door handles, tail lamps etc, and several other important things. Looks like one of those "we will paint any car for $99" deals. 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 154 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 154 | This sounds and looks like a quick in your pocket book type of finish. Not much of a prep job for a high quality finish.
I would hate to see what it looks like three years from now.
Primer over paint with out sanding ??????? | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 Master Gabster | Master Gabster Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 | When they make it look too easy, it probably is. I had my (former LA county police cruiser) painted by Earl Shibe when I was in college for $40.00 and I got what I paid for.

Years ago, a friend of mine's son scored a FINE old Camero that he bought to sell. He had one of those $99 paint jobs put on it and reduced the value by thousands. | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 267 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 267 | my thought was that the tractor paint was a better choice if you want an inexpensive paint job. i don't think the lacquer paints will hold up anything like the urethane or enamel paints tom

Here's a link. http://www.rickwrench.com/ Go to where it says 1966 Corvair Corsa 140/4 and click on where it says $50 paint job. Interesting. Wonder how long it will last? | | |
