I plan on using most of the 216 pieces including the generator set up. I just removed the 216 generator and mount. I am looking at my 235 and it does not have the flat mount area like the 216( front of block Driver's side)? Where or how does the generator mount on my 235? The front Driver's side of the 235 has angle motor mount not the 216 flat mount area ? Thank you. /// Serial # F1011A Date: J97 (10/09/57?) Block #:3738307 /// Ok answered my own ?. The 216 generator mount has two bolt holes and mounts flat on block. The 235 mount has three bolt holes and mounts at an angle/// they are different brackets.

What is the Engine Serial Number that is pressed into the block rearward of the distributor? That will tell the type/application of 235 - the "generation", and if was for a car/truck. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 1,611 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 1,611 | The 216's and 235's all have similar mountings for the generator bracket. I am not quite sure of your description. I agree with Tim, we need some more information regarding your 235 engine. Pictures say a 1000 words. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 1,004 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 1,004 | yeah that 235 might be special different... +1 vote for photo and casting numbers when i did that same procedure i did not have any issue with regards to the generator mount, due to belt size change from a B to an A size on the 235 i needed to bring along all my 216 bits i pulled the 216 water pump and balancer pulley on crank along with the generator which all went onto the 235 no problemo. -s | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | You edited your first post on Oct 15 (today)
In case the recent readers have not gone back to the first post, here is the engine ID info you edited in, up there:
/// Serial # F1011A Date: J97 (10/09/57?) Block #:3738307 ///
J 9 7 = October 9 1957 - block casting date 738307 = 1958 and later block (most likely available in late 1957)
F 10 11 A = engine serial number when installed in the truck F = Flint Michigan engine 10 = October 11 = 11th A = "regular" truck engine - mechanical lifters

Not a lot of difference, but I have also been wrong many times. The strap like mount will fit most engines. Even with the mount at a little different and angled location. First remove the mount from the generator and then try to fit it to the new mount. Bolt holes line up? Probably good. Then measure the the pulley alignment to the damper pulley and the water pump. OK or not? Probably OK there as well. Only thing left is the belt length. That will take you to fit. But if the mount will not line up with the mount holes, then you have to match the mount to the year and possibly options available(that seems unlikely to me but, I have missed this stuff before) the generator will be the same. The pully will need to match the damper pulley belt width(that is just how these swaps work) and that just leaves the mount. I have drilled new holes in on in the past, just why? Can't remember now, but I think it was to mount an alternator in place of the generator. That is a different story.
