Hello, bought this recently with a friend. It was pretty cheap, complete and has a title. The passenger rear wheels are locked up, working on the hubs, managed to get everything removed except that side axle.
So far we've removed the mirrors and cut about 3ft off the back of the chassis.
Working on the Rochester carb, not sure which rebuild kit to buy tag says J1 on it.

GMC with wheels removed, currently the hubs are removed too. Also here are some photos of the two halves of the carb and an available gasket for a Model B or BC kit. Don't think this is right....any thoughts?

What do you got for an engine in there?
A quick word of caution... It appears to be fit with the RH5 rims.... Just saying!

Thanks, not sure on the engine, but it is a GMC 6 cylinder, not Chevy. I assume it may be a 270? I haven't run the numbers yet. It has a 2 speed rear end too. I'll make sure I steer clear of those rims.

Engine cubic inch will be in the engine serial number, at the base of the distributor. Also on the ID tag in the driver door jamb. Example: 354 24 (248), or 354 27 (270).

Also, is there a test to see if this is a Positive ground set up? It is currently non-running but I don't want to set up the battery (6v) incorrectly when I first try to turn it over.

If the battery is in there, it might be hooked up, which if neg. or pos. Gnd. Nice truck.

Check the coil. The terminal connected to the distributor should be the same as what the ground is.

The important number on the carb tag is 7003863. When you buy your rebuild kit, give the parts counter person that number. Or you can Google that number plus "rochester" and you will find info on the carb and the kit to use.

You have a Rochester carburetor on a USA 1954 350 248/270/302 GMC engine?
It looks like that was a Chevrolet 216 engine carburetor (7003863)?

GarlandFarms: use the carburetor tag-code for parts (do not try to find the right parts by using the GMC truck-size/engine-size).

Your gasket looks correct, though my brain is fuzzy and its been almost 30 years since I last rebuilt these 1 barrel Rochesters. The gasket mounts to the cover under the jet assembly.

The engine block # is 270 2306
Does this mean it's a 270?
