Good Evening Folks,

So, I got scolded by someone on the facebooks tonight for making this reference while looking for a radiator core support;

"ISO 1955.2 - 1957 Truck radiator core support".

I was told that I had to refer to a 1955 2nd Series as a 1955.5.

This is my understanding of the nomenclature for the 1955. If it is wrong, can someone please correct me?

1955.1 is the 1st Series
1955.2 is the 2nd Series
1955.5 is the 5 Window version of the 1st series

Thanks,
Tim

Hello, Tim,

Chevrolet called it: 1955 2nd series or 1955 Truck Second Series

Look at the title of this Shop Manual
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1955truck2/index.htm

Look at the first couple intro pages of this Chevrolet Truck Specifications Manual:
http://www.1954advance-design.com/chev-specs/1955-Chevrolet-Truck-2nd-Series.pdf

I have never seen GM Chevrolet Truck documentation referring to a 1955.5 for a series of trucks or for an option.

Ask the facebook-scolder what GM Chevrolet Truck documentation used 1955.5
It would be nice to see/have that documentation.

What is the Facebook link?

GMC used different terminology/names/designators.

I'm with Tim, I've never heard 55.5 ever being used to describe a 2nd Series Chevrolet Truck or even a 5-window for that matter...

To take it one step further, the 1955 2nd Series Chevrolet Trucks even had it stamped in their serial number with "255" as year designation.

The 1955 1/2 is a made up name by some folks. Then it turns into 1955.5. Then it turns into that is what they were called.

As you can see, Chevy called them Task Force Second Series or 2nd Series or 2nd. The 1955.2 is OK and excepted but it leads towards a decimal unequivalent meaning to second series. I use the 1955.2 because it's easier to type.

It's kind of fashioned after computer versions like 2.0.

Tim and Mike have the correct nomenclature and the GM documentation.

I guess the terms that I had used are "shorthand or slang" for the trucks.
I've seen ads and posts in this forum and others using the same "common" speak.
I was aware of the 2nd Series or Task Force designations... and of course the Advanced Design....

Also, if you search the interwebs with the tags 1955.1 Chevy Truck / 1955.2 Chevy Truck / 1955.5 Chevy Truck, it brings up the items i spoke of (in my original post) ... lol...

thanks for the the info guys smile

That would be Advance-Design; or, sometimes Advance Design (never Advanced).

GMC trucks of that era were named New Design (no hyphen).

Facebook is living proof of the George Carlin axiom: "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers."

It seems to be the bastion of ignorant people, unfortunately giving them a voice and a support network. Hence the lunatic fringe of superstitious and paranoid conspiracy theorists continues to burgeon in the petrie dish of social media.

Upshot: 55.2 is certainly more accurate and understandable than 55.5.
55-2 or 55/2 might be even better.
