Hopefully someone can help clarify some information for me. I was always told growing up that this truck is a 55 chevy and that it came stock with 4wd. Did a little research and havent been able to find much at all. I've noticed 57 had an option for 4wd so I'm wondering if that's what I got. I cant find a vin anywhere since most of inside of the truck was burned by a fire. I was also told something about they were originally snow plows of some degree. I'm not sure what truck this is anymore after all these stories and research I found. It has a big boy window and sits high off the ground. It also has the v shaped speedometer inside and its manual transmission. I have after fire pics I'll post right now but I do have before pics that I'll get uploaded soon.

4WD was a dealer and aftermarket accessory for many years prior to 1955. I can’t view your photos but I would bet the information you got from the previous owner was/is correct.🛠

Looks like it might be a '55 second series. Will need to see more of it. The how-to on posting images is bottom left of every page. Since you're still moderated that permission may not be unlocked yet. Here's the pic.

Anyone know where I can find the vin on it. It's in pretty rough shape so I doubt a tag would still be there so hoping for one on the frame.

Most states used the engine number as the "VIN" on the title through 1955. Some used the serial number which would be on the data plate. Someone else will have to help you on where the data plate is located. Good luck with it.

Doesn't really mean much, but the hood looks to have had a 1956 badge on it. Look on the frame above the front axle drivers side.

the front fender emblems are below the fender crease (as seen in the picture) on a 55.2 and above on a 56.

Looks like a 55-2 with a 1956 hood. Any Four Wheel Drive parts would have been dealer or owner installed.

Look on the drivers side door post for the stainless steel chassis serial number. By 1955 most States were using this number on the paper title, earlier vehicles could have the engine serial number on the title. As mentioned above the frame is also stamped on top of the frame rail above the front axle, it will not have the series number, it will start with the year.

The engine serial number is located on the machined surface by the distributor for the straight six and on the pad in front of the passenger side head on the V8's.

Looks alot like my 56 (except the rear window), my vin is in two places as previously posted; one on the left door pilar (on a stamped piece of steel), and the other stamped into the frame rail, left side, facing up, just forward of the steering box. The one on the frame may take some cleaning to expose it, but it should still be readable I would think.

LeeD,

Except for the hood and fender emblem locations, 55-2 and 56 look exactly the same...Big and Small back windows were available for ALL TF trucks 55-59.
