Hi folks,

First post here. I've owned a '66 C60 since April and finally got it registered last week. The truck has lots of needs but it's going to be a lot of fun.

In the short term I need your help getting the parking brake together. I was able to source an "auxiliary" brake band with fresh linings and my truck appears to have all of the linkage parts but I'm missing the springs. If you have a truck with the same brake, could you please take a caliper and measure the springs for me? I'm looking for outer diameter, wire thickness, the number of coils, and length (ideally relaxed, but I could use measurements as installed). I've attached a couple of photos.

I'm real excited to get this machine together. It's a 292/4 speed truck with a steel single-piston dump bed and a lot of corrosion.

Thanks for your help!

Sean

That may not use a band but instead an inner and outer shoe, are you sure either way?

Grigg is right, that's a Dual Shoe parking brake.

There will be a pin as big as your thumb on the drivers side and when viewing from the back it's at the 9 o-clock position. The dual shoe lever pivots on that pin and the other end of the lever connects to the linkage hanging down on the passenger side. The deflector ring in the middle of the drum is also a dead give away...it keeps U-joint grease from flinging out onto the inner shoe and drum surfaces...if you have an external band that deflector ring is not needed/used.

Hey thanks for your help, folks.

I bought the parts manual and it does show a twin-shoe brake for this vehicle. I found an inner shoe 3694570 and most of the linkage parts on eBay, but I haven't located an outer shoe 3694574 or a couple of the other components. I'll degrease the assembly on my truck and take some more photos to share. Could you recommend any likely sources to find the missing parts?

Sorry for the delay in my reply!

Thanks for the photos, 52vff. I think that I've found most of the parts. Can you say whether the component that's highlighted in your photo below is custom or original?

I am not sure if you have all of your parts but I am attaching a copy of driveline brake exploded diagram. it took me 2 years of searching to find all of what I needed. maybe this can help you get it mounted.

the area you circled in green on my truck is where the pivot post is that is attached to the transmission housing, shown as 5.610 Pin in the diagram. mine does not have the "L" shaped piece like in the photo above.

I can't say for absolute certainty because mine was adapted to sit behind the pump (fire truck) instead of the transmission, but it appears like it was original parts moved back. That particular part is the bracket the outer shoes pivots on.

Thanks, Gene! That exploded view sure is handy. It allowed me to confirm that I'm only missing the outer shoe and some fasteners at this point.

And thanks for your reply, 52vff.
