Interesting truck. Like the Heavy Front Axle and the Wide Front Fenders. Just over CDL at 27,000. When those trucks were built no one knew anything about those new CDL numbers. In my opinion, your guess of 9,000 is pretty accurate. My '62 4000 with a 305 V-6 weighed 8,000 with a Wooden Flat Bed on it. My '62 6500 with a 478 V-6 weighed about 12,500 with Steel Flat Bed on it.
Can't really tell by the pictures. What kind of Trans does it have?

New Process 541GL, not sure what GL is for. My 58 has a NP-540-DD, direct drive 5th gear.
Has an Eaton 18,000 2-speed electric rear, with 6.50 and 8.87 gears. Its a driver, but needs brake work. Have to take it for a cruise when I get the brakes in order and see what a good speed is..
My 58 has a pile of leafs in the back, and my 70 has a bunch too and is rated at 38,000. So, hopefully, the 27,000 will be a little more roadworthy or should I say "rideworthy", LOL.
My trailer is has two 7000 lb axles (14000). The trailer has to weight about 2500, so I think I will be good. Hitch is new and rated at 16000. I hauled a 1947 Dodge Coe empty back with it without any problems, but this is bigger in all dimensions.
Thanks,

Neat truck, BaconFarms! Thanks for sharing the pictures.
BTW, I pruned this thread of all the posts that did not pertain to the OP so I could unlock it. This is a good, happy discussion. Let's keep it that way
Oh, Miss! Another round for the boys, please!

I believe I read somewhere the curb weight of a 5000 series cab/Chassis was 8200lbs. Of course it’s relative to the wheel base, frame length and number of axles. I think yours would be close.
Thanks John for cleaning this up and unlocking. For those wanting to haul one of these monsters there is good information to be had.

I Hauled a Truck on a Trailer here while back, the truck just fit on the trailer as far as wheel base Length. Weight was not a Problem for the trailer. two 7000# axles. It was Balance, it pulled great below 40 MPH. But out on a Two lane Paved Country road speed limit 60, but at 45-50, it started to have a little bounce. I hit a little spot in the road at 45, before I knew it, the back of My truck was hopping around, I took a firmer grip on the Steering wheel with both hands and a firm grip on the seat. Let off the gas little at a time. No body coming or following, keep her as close to in my lane as I could, while taking a little of the other lane hoping not to go off the Shoulder. I got for free that time what many people pay good money to feel. The right Trailer capacity is important, but watch that balance and speed. After that I was satisfied with 35 MPH.
We'll, after my cousin talked himself into hauling the truck for me for gas money, we are headed out tomorrow to retrieve it with his semi and equipment trailer. So, weight will not be a problem..
More to come.
I did buy an original 1965 GMC factory brochure from eBay and it arrived today. I see the H in the model VH5008 is for 401 and 7" wide rear brakes vs the standard 351 V6 and 5" wide rear brakes. The heavy axle and wide front fenders could be options on either the H5008 or the 5008. And the 8 is for the 175 inch wheelbase. Now if I could just figure out what the V is for??
The truck has the optional 10-bolt budds as even I can see that from the pictures, LOL, but it will be interesting to see what other options the "county" ordered back in '65. According to the shop foreman, he believes the county bought the truck new in 65. I did ask if he could ask the secretary if they have/had a file on the truck with such things as a purchase order etc. He said he would ask and he would give me any info he had from the shop.
I will see what I come back with,

According to my trucker, I am happy that I can use stud centered budds like that are on it, or I can get the correct studs and use hub centered (steel only) wheels. Here is what we are looking at...

Looks good. It is actually in better condition than I figured it to be.
I thought it had Air Brakes for a minute, lol. Until I read your explanation.
By the way, even though my truck did have Air Brakes, you have the same Emergency Brake that I had (it's practically on the passenger side, lol). In case you haven't discovered it yet, that Knob on the end of the handle is the Adjuster.
