I am installing a alternator on a SBC with Ramshorn manifolds.It has the stock bracket , but the distance between the arms is longer than the base of the alt. Was there a spacer that fit there with a short arm that bolted on the back of the alt? If so where could I find one? The junk yard has gone to newer trucks with the serpentine belts.
Use a piece of 3/8" pipe and cut it to the correct length. Jerry

I like Jerry's solution as opposed to a $9.50 (Alaska price) piece of tubing from O'Reilly's, that you have to cut to length anyway. A pipe nipple is way cheaper (like me ).

Thanks for all the ideas. All are better than a stack of washers. That was a unusual bracket you posted. Mine bolted to the manifold and all the pulleys lined up ok. Lucky me.
Another potential solution that would allow you to fine tune the alternator position is a piece of allthread all the way through the bracket with strategically placed nylock nuts or nuts and lock washers.
I was watching one of those rebuild your car shows tonight and they had a 64 327 on that had the bracket with a spacer coming in the back of the mount. so it looked like the bolt pushed the spacer forward to lock the alternator. would require drilling the rear arm exactly the size of the shim. I was hoping to make it out to one of the local cruises this weekend and look at some stock cars. Probably the simple fix is cutting a pipe or spacer to fit and moving to next prob, Finding 59 throttle arm for a v8. Happy 4 everyone
