I have a 1954 3600 with a 56 car motor. Just finished adding Vintage Air system to the truck. What a difference in these Arizona temps. The Sanden compressor calls for a series 17 or a 1/2" belt to be used of either Gates, Goodyear or Dayco brand. My waterpump pulley will accept a 3/8" belt but the 1/2" will fit. Is there a pulley made of the same diameter of mine but with a 1/2 " groove? I do have the adapter plate and moved the pump to the middle of the radiator. Maybe a complete short nosed pump is offered? I'm sure with all the a/c being added that someone has run into this problem. Thanks for your feedback.

When I converted a new 6" diameter V8 crankshaft balancer to a 2-groove stovebolt item by pairing it up with a reversed big block V8 pulley, I also machined the single groove pulley off a 216 style water pump and installed a 2-groove pulley from a 302 Ford V8 water pump. It's a fairly simple conversion, but it does involve some machine work. The second pulley groove on the crankshaft and the water pump gives you more options of how to route belts for AC or power steering systems.

Do you have the pulley off the old truck engine? I'm pretty sure the trucks used a 1/2" belt. Here is a bone stock 57 truck 235 with a Sanden compressor. A 1/2" pulley has been put on the alternator but all the others are factory. All Ford/GM alternator and generator pulleys fit the same size shaft.

Sadly the car motor came with the truck when purchased. The diameter of your waterpump pulley does look to be a lot larger than mine. I wonder if a 1/2"pulley could be pressed onto the shaft of my pump? It looks as though that large pulley may not fit under the thermostat housing.

Recently looked at the belt on my truck and noticed that the PO put a narrow belt on. Looks like the belt is riding on the bottom of the groove on the water pump and crank pulleys but not on the generator pulley which likely was changed at some point in its life. I'll likely need to change something to make the pulley widths match when I get to that.

If you're smart enough to take it apart, you darn well better be smart enough to put it back together.
