Howdy everybody! Sure glad to be here! What a great wealth of knowledge.
So I have this hitch on my 54 GMC and was wondering if anyone knows if it is OEM or aftermarket.
I have seen pics of a few trucks with this mounted on some classic websites.
I hope the pic posts. Thanks in advance.
Jim

Some neat work. It’s aftermarket. 🛠

That's some artistic fabrication! It's a conversation piece - I'd leave it on.

A very handsome and unusual bumper there! I’ve never seen one before. Having something that is unique is rare in itself, so I’d keep it on the truck for sure.

Very nice bumper.

GMC listed accessory rear bumpers in 1954 (one with a hole for a tow-hitch/ball), but show no heavy-duty towing bumpers.

Thanks everybody for your input, As said earlier I have seen a few pics of this on a few other GMCs but yes seems to be very rare.
It is made very well...all the welds and fab are top notch certainly not out of the realm of factory manufacture. I'm now thinking maybe Western Auto or another catalog dealer of the day could have sold these. And I agree it is certainly a conversation piece. It would be a perfect match up for pulling a classic 50s teardrop trailer or something else along those lines but that's not in the cards of this old farm truck. So off it will stay. Anybody interested in it let me know.

Jim, post a for sale ad in the Swap Meet Forum. Buying, selling, bartering is not allowed in the help forums. Since this thread is leaning that way I am going to lock it. For anyone wanting to discuss the purchase look for the ad. Thanks, The Stovebolt Staff.
