I'm trying to find someone or someplace to buy a set of the defroster adapters that fit under the dash of a 1946 Chevy truck.

If there are none available, if someone can give me the measurements I can fabricate new ones from Stainless Steel.

You should be able to find them on eBay on a fairly regular basis. I don't see them every week to fit my 38 but I see them several times a year. I've read of people using shop-vac hose ends as defroster outlets.

Tiny - You don't have to read about it anymore. Take a look at this Sears Knock Off installed in my '41. I didn't even know it was there until disassembly.

The ones used for Jeeps are reproduced, you may be able to adapt one of them if you can't find originals.

If I can't find the real thing, the Sears vacum cleaner tool idea is GREAT!!

Dan - I've exhausted my search resources for the defrost vent. You might want to give Tom Myers a call at (918) 542-3871 or Ken Neil @(918) 605-2248. They both have salvage parts for the old trucks.

down2sea, I am really interested in the Dodge Hood Props. What year, or where can find some?
I am restoring a 46 and I really don't like the idea of laying the hood back over the other.

Thanks, Tom Myers has them. I also found out about a large old Chevy junkyard in Portland, Oregon. I have a call into them as well.

Well heck Dan I gave away my source! I just found out today that the defrost vent adapters received from Bowtie Bits are the wrong size. It's all good though. I'll be giving Tom Myers a call tomorrow. :hammering:

Can't you still use them, they look larger than the hole. What vintage truck do you have. Mine is a 46.

Plus Bow Ties said they didn't have any when I asked about them for my 46.

They did give me a junk yard's name in Portland, Oregon I have at the office. They say they have 17 acres of old Chevy's plus some huge warehouses with parts. I did call and ask them about he defrosters, but they never called back.

If the dash wasn't already painted I would take a dremel tool and grind out the slots to make them fit. As it stands now I just got off the phone with Tom Myers and he said he has a pair (apparently for you) and is just waiting for the money. He did tell me about a pair on eBay which I just bid an ungodly sum for; desperate men do desperate things.... Don't know if I'll "win" them or not as there is someone else out there as crazy as I. Ain't that the way auctions go at times?

Its all good though. I may just end up putting the ones I got up on eBay later. Perhaps there will be two crazy bidders out there when I do.

There's a pair on eBay now that ends today.

I know I bid on it and backed out when it went more than I was going to pay. I found a pair at Tom Myers far cheaper!

It's funny how it works sometimes. I've seen them sell for $20 & these are selling for enough to retire the national debt. I guess it just depends on how many people need them at any given time.

I did bid on them, but when they got over $60 that was more than I was going to pay for them and my truck is a long way from being original! Sombody must have won the lotto!

What did they end up going for?

the Shop vac thing woulda worked great for me ....ooh well i already got a set ...for 3 times as much ...lesson learned !

The last time I looked there was just over a day left & I believe they were over $150.

It ended yesterday, and that's about the price I remembered. I got one from Tom Myers for about $48 with freight. A better deal!
