I bought a new drag link for my 55 2nd. It came with new zirc fittings not installed. I found the holes for the fittings were not threaded. Am I missing something here, I don't seem to be able to install zirc fittings in holes so they stay under pressure from grease gun?

Some zerk fittings were drive-in type. I've run into some of them. You could thread the holes, being extreeeeemely careful to keep chips out of the joint.

I replaced mine on my 58 with a moog . It came the same way, when I called them and they said the zerks were self tapping. They were.

Mine are Moog as well. I was not able to get the zerks to self tap into the holes. When I drove them in, the threads folded over and when I tried to pump grease in they popped out᠁. I was able to get some grease into ball joints and then put zerks back in.

I've got an old alimite zerk kit that has all size zerks and the taps for them . I will look and see what size tap is required. Some of those things have tapered threading.

Thank you 6571, it might require a bottoming tap? I've got a set of zerks from HF and they appear to be different threads. they are soft, and deform easily. The Moog parts I have are made south of the border, maybe they came with out of spec zerks? I called Moog this am and they are sending a set of fittings, they said they should self tap into holes. He described them as self-tapping, so we'll see what we see?

They left one of mine out and had to send me another set also. I used a nut driver from a 1/4 inch drive set to keep constant downward pressure until it started to bite and thread. When it starts threading keep going ,don 't stop or back out.

Thanks for the help. When the new zerks from Moog show up, I'll try a nut driver and see if I can get them to thread in. Gonna be a little tougher now that I have the draglink installed! My '55 was wandering/oversteering a little at speed, and the new link helped that .

Mine only calmed down after the new tie rod and ends were installed. My front end was 5/8 inch difference from back to front on front tire measurement. I would be tensed up driving on the interstate trying to keep it centered with the road imperfections and pot holes. Now I have 1/8 inch difference from front to back.

ya, I put in a heavy duty tie rod and ends from CPP, when I got my truck 5 years ago. I set the toe in at 3/16in. Made a world of difference. I knew the drag link was not real good, but took me all this time to finally replace it! Could be the placebo effect, but steering effort at slow speed seems lighter now?
