The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Need Help with motor swap

I took some time and searched and wasnt really able to find an answer. I have a 1949 GMC 1/2 ton truck. I just got done rebui8lding it about a month ago. I put a 1970 Chevy 20 motor in it and fabricated a front cross member. I had a small block bell housing adaptor that i used to bolt it up to the origianl granny 4 speed tranny. I came across a extra small block that i have out of one of my wrecked corvetts. So i think i want to put it in. But i need to know what needs to be changed to put it in.

I was going to get one of the already made cross members from chevy duty for the small block. But what else needs to be done. Is the steeing box in the way? Is there anyway to keep it where it is using a specific header? Basically, what needs t obe done to put a chevy 350 into one of these trucks? Thank you all for your time.

I've had good luck with steering box to exhaust manifold clearance by using the exhaust manifold off the late 60 Chevelle. This exhaust manifold has an inward bend toward the engine at about the #5 & #7 cylinders and that happens to be in the location of the steering box on the AD. I will hunt up my spare exhaust manifold and send you a picture tomorrow or the next day.

so what you are saying though is that there arent any headers what will clear it?

Oh the block hugger headers clear just fine. I was just giving you another option.

Chevy1 - would you be able to post a photo of that Chevelle manifold?

i was looking in summit and there are two types of hugger headers. Do you happen to know which ones fit?
