I did no take note which way I took the pistons out of the block. If the engine is up side down ( crankshaft facing me) which way do the pistons go in. The screw locking the wrist pin should it face the oil pump side or the oposit side. There are no markings on the old pistons to tell front or rear.
Hope I asked the correct way. I am a novice in that and have to learn a lots. | | |

#12592 10/03/2002 3:31 PM | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 962 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 962 | Each rod has a tiny hole drilled into it at the big end. Its right above one rod bolt. This "spurt hole" takes oil from the rod bearing, and sprays it at the camshaft lobes and cylinder walls. So install all rods so that the "spurt hole" goes toward the cam. Make sure these holes are clean, and the hole in the rod bearing insert lines up with the spurt hole drilled in the rod.
Each piston/rod assembly must go back into the cylinder it came out of. Also, make sure the rod caps aren't on backwards, as it will cause bearing failure. The bearing insert 'lock' in the rod cap goes on the same side as the 'lock' in the rod.
Also, make sure to check all piston ring end-gaps, clean carbon from all ring grooves and then check ring side-clearance and ring depth in piston ring grooves. This will prevent the new rings from breaking or burning oil.
