Has anyone seen the 39 GMC Railway Van with the supposedly Airstream body on Hemmings? My wife said she really didn't hate it, and the coffee has kicked in. My initial thought, new diesel engine, trans and rear end, restore the cab with some new seats and living space in the back. What would you guy do?

Have a customer that put an earlier "dumb", no electronics, Cummins in a 54 Chevy Coca Cola truck. Has automatic and runs very strong. The Coke box at the front of the bed is the fuel tank.

Looks like a 426/477/503 gasser, what trans?

Interesting Daytons on the rear, 10 bolt on the front.

What is the diff. ratio?

Ed

I was looking at that and trying to figure out what the engine is. Also what the big pump is. Ed is the engine series that you referred to something that was around then?

Shhh, truckernix, keep this quiet. That is an air compressor for air brakes and has been my source of double groove crank pulleys for Stovebolt and Jimmy engines for years. That is very old and looks like it uses 7/8" belt but they also were used with narrower belts.
