On my truck, only the left side rearview mirror came from the factory. For added sense of security(and to keep from running over stuff on the blind side) I want to add a mirror on the right side. My question is: are the mounting holes the same distance in front of the door and the same height on the cowl as those on the left side? If not, what is the proper location---I can't find another truck in this part of Texas with a right side mirror to compare to. Thanks guys/gals. :confused:

You may need to pull out the glove box. Because of the location of the heater, I can't guarantee that they are in exactly the same spot.

Unfortunately, there is nothing outside or under the dash to give me a clue to the location. We've got her in the paint shop--ground the old paint down to bare metal and did not see any evidence of holes, dimples for holes, or anything. Trucks been in the family since it was new, and I know that it's never been molested to have the holes filled. So--back to square one. Thanks anyway!!

I would have someone hold it up and be in the drivers area and try to position and mark it that way.
The right mirror has quite the curve to the arm so you can see it thru the windshield. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 39 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2005 Posts: 39 | There is a TECH TIP on this topic that I followed when I insatlled a mirror on the right side of my '54.
Following the TECH TIP, I removed the carboard glove box and found two olbong holes in a backer plate that was already part of the cab. I drilled holes through the oblong holes in the backer plate and mounted the mirror.
I don't know about the mirror on the drivers side, but I imagine the same holds true.

I reckon I didn't <deleted> the inside quite far enough up to find that backer plate. That solves the mystery for me. Now I can go on to some of the other mysteries of the rebuild!
