Anyone know of a 12 volt wiper motor that I can buy at the local parts store that can be made to fit my 54 3100? I have seen the wiper motor kits but I was hoping to find something cheaper and that was readily available in case I ever needed to replace it. Thanks

I have seen some people use the rear window wiper motors from s10 blazers because they go back and forth and not all the way round like most newer wipers. You would need to make a fitting to attach to truck and arms. You can use the same wiper to motor arm from the vacuum motor. The sweep seems to end up a little shorter for some reason. Just take a little simple welding to make it work. You can get the motor from the junk yard, or still new. Mid 90s rear s10 wiper motor is what it was.

"54 3100"

If you have (or, ever want to add) a 1954 radio, be careful with the style replacement wiper you put in a 54/55st Chevrolet Truck (GMC truck is no problem - different speaker location).

None of the aftermarket electric wipers for 47-55st trucks work with a 1954/55 Chevrolet Truck radio's speakers.

LeeP, were you referring to those S10 wipers working in a 54/55st truck? If yes, that would be a good option.

Yes, they should work on any model that needs the back and forth action. I'm not really familiar with the 54/55 dash, but a little ingenuity goes a long way. I know for a fact it fits 53 and 55 2nd gen. I don't like the after market electric wiper kits, they are flimsy and cost way too much. Grind off the wiper arm from the vacuum motor, weld a nut on the arm and use a tapered reamer to size for fitment to the new motor. And you gain intermittent wipers.

Thanks guys thats exactly the suggestion I was looking for. I dont have a radio and have no plans to get one. If and when I did get a radio it would probably a modern type radio and speaker and I would make it fit around my electric wipers. Thanks again

Jonald: When I installed an electric wiper motor in my 49 3600 there was a problem with it hitting the choke cable. I wasn.t using the throttle cable so I cut that cable from the shaft and installed it up where the choke cable was and put the choke cable down where the throttle cable was. The throttle cable knob is there just for looks and to fill in that hole. Dave V
