The windshield on my 41 was literally screwed into place when I got it; with none of the parts needed for crank out operation. So I've been trying to get it back to operational. I thought I was home free after I got the regulator and bracket....but no.

The center to center dimension on my crank bracket is 1-15/16 and on my windshield T brace is 1-3/4. I thought I had the incorrect bracket, so I asked a vendor what the dimension of their bracket was and they said 2". So, then I thought that the windshield and T brace must have been modified at some point, so I disassembled the windshield to see if it would reveal anything. But, no. As you can see in the pic, there are no other holes in the frame.

So, what am I missing? Is this the incorrect crank bracket? Or incorrect windshield? 25 years ago, did I just get the wrong truck!!!! Just kidding....I love this hobby!

As always, thanks for your help.

All those pieces are so rare and fragile, don't get your hopes up too high.

Sent you an email with a photo attachment showing the assembly on my ‘46. It should be the same as that on your ‘41,as I understand it.

Tried posting it here, but apparently the site software doesn’t like IPads?

I would guess when the vendor said 2" he was not measuring as well as you and your 1 15/16. A lot of people don't get how to read a tape measure to that level.

Thanks Lee. That's how I envisioned mine going together.
I still don't know what's going on. If your bracket holes are 1-3/4 on center (hard to tell by the pic- I couldn't upload it either), that's the same as my windshield and I have the incorrect crank bracket.
I think I'm just going to make one that fits. Isn't that what I'm supposed to do with these ol' trucks???
Thanks again....much appreciated.

I sent you a photo also from my 45 GMC. Hope it helps.

This is one of the best features on the 41-46 trucks. I just love the crank out windshield.

Thanks Phillip...got it. Looks just like Lee's (46 Sparky).
I mean....if you got a crank out windshield....ya gotta be able to crank it out...right????
It has taken a lot of effort the get all the parts together to get it to function (and I'm not there yet), but I know it will be worth it.

Ed, there's always hope. Please don't take that from me smile

Thanks all for your help. Now to the shop with me to make that bracket!! I'm not very good at this stuff, but I love trying!

Victor,
you may have a pre-1938 bracket. Here is the bracket you need.

Those crank outs are not cheap to replace,I am thinking of having somebody make up the gear that wears out,I wonder if there would be a demand enough to do a run on them?

You are correct 46! After many years of searching for one, I found two within a two week period. I have one that needs some attention listed in the classified section if you're interested.

I had to change mine out 2 years ago. I'm surprised no one has offered a updated version with a more ro-bust gear drive in it. Market demand must be low...
