I've had a 46 2 ton for the better part of a year now. The truck has a newer (73ish) inline 6 and transmission but the rest of the driveline is stock. I managed to find a replacement seal for one of the rear wheels and I re-used the axle/bearing nuts and washers. The rear end lube was leaking on one side and has pretty much ruined the shoes on that side. I can find an axle flange gasket from rockauto and a set of axle/spindle nuts and washes from Dorman (Kit 05310) but I'd like to buy just the positioning washer, the one that looks like a sun burst and I can't find a part number for that washer nor the smooth one that sets up against the bearing. Also since the brake shoes are pretty much toast I need a part number for them too.

There is a place here in Nebraska which will reline the shoes I have but they want $150 per side but hopefully new shoes might be cheaper;

Any help would REALLY be appreciated.

Thanks

I couldn't find rear shoes for mine, all the leads come back as obsolete, 15"x4" with two wheel cylinders per side. I cleaned up the shoes pretty good on one side, other side had no leakage. Works ok for now.

I think the thread size on the spindle nut is 2 in 16 but I could very likely be way off. I'll check some more.
As for the brakes. I tried an olde school trick and cleaned the pads with brake cleaner then heated the surface with a torch. That tends to bring the oil to the surface a bit and while I doubt they are cleaned thoroughly that might suffice for the short term at least until I can find a reliner.

If it's 2", parts from the GM 14 bolt should work. Try a Dorman 618-049 for the spindle locking washer https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/rnb-618-049/overview/ If you need any measurements on that one, I have one in my hand, rulers not far away. The matching flat washer to that is a Dorman 618-048 https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/rnb-618-048/overview/ if you have to do the nuts too, the 14 bolt is also 2-16 (Dorman 615-130) but I like the clip ring setup better...

It's all the same size hardware (2"), just a different method of retention. Uses Hub nut: Dorman 615-132, Key: Dorman 615-140, Clip Ring: Dorman 615-141 instead of everything in that first paragraph. For pics (and also some other useful info, keeping in mind that this is all 14 bolt specific) see http://www.billavista.com/tech/Articles/14-Bolt_Bible/index.html It shows the first method 1/4 way down the page and the clip ring setup 1/3 way down the page.

I had the rear shoes on my '59 relined 5 or 6 years ago by a shop that was in downtown Omaha. Not sure if they're still there but I think I only paid around $50 to 60 for one side.

Clutch Exchange in Denver can do that.

The 2” spindle nut, if it is, is what the 14 bolt uses, as already noted.
In addition to the previously provided part numbers some alternate numbers at possibly better prices can be found here.

Thats a good writeup Grigg! Was wondering why I hadn't read it yet and noticed it was filed in the 1 ton stuff. In addition I got mine at www.rockauto.com and have found them to be very reasonable for prices.

Thanks all for the great suggestions.

I managed to find the Dorman specific numbers for the parts as well as for Dana. They also listed the Ford and GM part numbers for the same nuts and washers..

I reached out to Summit Racing for the dimensions on their spindle lock washer and I'll check with Rockauto again. One of the guys from NAPA on Grover in Omaha suggested 2 places downtown that still reline shoes. I think the one on 24th street is out of business but Auto brake and Clutch is still around. I'll try them as well as Clutch Exchange in Denver.

One of the guys I have coffee with in the mornings suggested Nebraska Machine (NMC) for brakes on fork lifts and any of the Cat and/or JD shops.

I've got a ton more ideas and information than I did last week. Next week should be fun...........

Thanks again.
