Now that I've definitely identified my engine as a 66-67 283 I need to get a fuel pump for it. It seems like somewhere I heard that I've got to be careful as to what fuel pump goes on it. Supposedly some will fit but will be too powerful and overpower the floats in the carb causing flooding. Is there any truth to this and if so can anyone point me in the right direction? Or is it as simple as telling my parts guy I want a fuel pump for a 66 Chevy?

Any small block Chevy V8 fuel pump will bolt on and work. The only thing I can recall that might have too much pressure would be one of the Carter racing pumps that were made back in the 1970's, and finding one of those today would be like finding a chicken with lips. Some of the pumps made for 350 engines will have an extra small-diameter hose nipple for a bypass line back to the fuel tank. You should probably avoid one of those, but only because your vehicle probably doesn't have the extra line plumbed from the tank, not because of any over pressure concerns.
