I have used plastics in the past, decades ago. that hurt to type! but personal choice metal body/ metal filler."the old lead sled" . I'll bet it doesn't stick or work as well as the real stuff, either! PPG used to sell a powdered product that we mixed with a resin resembling clear lacquer called "Aluma-Lead" that worked very well, but that was over 40 years ago. I doubt if it's available any more.

X2. But the kit does include a few tools like paddles and files. But you can get 3 lb of lead-free solder at about any plumbing supply house for way less than that. It's been around for over 10 years in the plumbing business. Generally a tin-silver or tin-silver-copper alloy. It's available in wire or bar form. Works just as well as Lead-tin solder for sweating pipes and could be used for body work as well.

I went down this road a few years ago and purchased this product from Eastwood. I wish I could say it was awesome. Watched all the videos also. But it's not a easy to work with as "Lead". It has a very small melt window, and you could end up having a lot on you shoes real fast. Not easy to touch up either. Also if the "Tin" process isn't perfect it's a bear to clean up the sub straight.

There's definitely a learning curve involved in softening up the lead just enough to spread it around with a hardwood paddle. Keep the paddle slightly slippery with motor oil on a rag to keep it from sticking to the lead.
