Did Chevy manufacture a 4WD Suburban in 47-54? I spotted this one for sale on Craigslist; is it factory or a conversion? Either way, it's cool! But I'd sure remove those trailer windows...

I don't have the documentation but I'd say NO. Looks to be a cobbled up job?

NAPCO made an after sale 4-wheel drive conversion during those years.

A dealer could arrange for the conversion as part of a purchase/sale (from the Chevrolet Truck Blue Book).

Maybe someone knows the late 1950s year when 4-wheel drive was a true Chevrolet truck option/model?

I agree with Alvin.

Mid sixties is when they came from factory. Not sure which year. If someone can confirm, I also would be interested in the precise year.

A 4-wheel drive option (RPO-690 NAPCO conversion) was available in 1957 on 3100-3800 (through 1959).

C/K series was/were introduced in 1960 (OEM).

Those front wheels on that Burb remind me of a Coleman 4x4 conversion, which would be from that era.

1960 is the first year of a factory 4x4 from Chevrolet (OEM).

I agree with Phil. Those front wheels are a dead give away for the Coleman aftermarket 4WD conversion.

Not arguing with anyone, just quoting what I read...Napco dealer conversions started around 1951, GMC from the factory in 1956, Chevrolet from the factory in 1957

No need to argue - most likely the NAPCO info above is correct.

Coleman info above is also probably correct.

Do you want to know (or, do you know) what/when the GM (Chevrolet) dealers could order either/both of them from a Silver Book (they are somewhat rare books)?

The Coleman 4X4 conversion is listed in the 1949 Silver Book....

That's the earliest that I could find as far as the civilian retail market is concerned but, there were 4X4 equipped Chevy trucks as far back as WW2 for the military .
