Does anyone know what the 1/2" hole below the tailgate on the bed frame rear center of the truck. 53 3100 short bed.

It is for a J-hook for the under-bed spare tire carrier. It wasn't used for the '51 and later trucks, as the design for the carrier was changed. They did not change the dies for this piece of sheet metal, so the hole remained. Well that's my best guess anyway.

Thanks I knew had a practical use I did leave it as is but covered with a cut out of chevy bowtie engraved with my wife and my name.
