I know guys using it on 235s. I measured the length, marked the shaft to ensure it is actually in the oil pump. Gear connects perfectly, but it is sitting too high. I found a pin I can knock out. Will that allow me to make it longer? Part listed link below.

FYI, I will be pulling the distributor off the not so happy engine to double check proper length Tomorrow. Old distributor needs to be replaced and I shouldn’t reuse it. Thoughts?
Chris | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,756 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,756 | The flange on the HEI housing needs to be ground/machined off, and the housing clamp from the stovebolt vacuum advance unit is used to position it at the right height to line up the gear and the oil pump drive. I've also used a split shaft collar machined to the correct diameter to adjust the height of the HEI housing, and a bolt and washer in the original distributor attaching hole as a hold-down.

too late dun been drove to drinkin | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,756 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,756 | I make a hold down clamp from 3/8" X 2" aluminum flat stock with a hole to bolt it to the block, and a slot with a pinch bolt to turn the housing for timing adjustment. I think I've got one stashed away that's on a modified distributor housing. If I can find it, I'll post some pictures. If you fish for big catfish in swift water, aftermarket distributors make good weights to keep your bait from drifting away.
