on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2017 Posts: 32 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2017 Posts: 32 | Hello I am in the UK. I recently imported a 1952 Chevrolet 6400 truck. The Vin Number on the title is 5VWF4789D. On the plate inside the drivers side door pillar it shows 5VWF4789. There is no letter D because of this I cant get the truck registered yet. Is there some where i can check the Vin number or is the letter D a typeo. Hope some one can help. Thanks Howard. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2016 Posts: 264 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2016 Posts: 264 | Hopefully someone will be along in a bit to verify, but I'm betting a typo... if you'd had a Canadian built truck I do have the manual with the vintage decoder for that. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2017 Posts: 32 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2017 Posts: 32 | Hello yes the truck is a US truck, I thought the last letter was a typo but lets see if any body else can shed some light. Can you post a photo of your vehicle number? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,214 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,214 | Howard, I'll chime in and say in all my years of doing Chevrolet research (1930's thru 1950's) I've never seen a "unit number" with a sufix letter. The "unit number" was always the last set of numbers in the serial number. The page Tim linked is actually a copy from the Chevrolet Specification Booklet. Somewhere in the US? Maybe they have added a suffix code "D" for some reason. You may need to contact the Motor Vehicle Department in that particular state to find out.

Mike B | | | | | Joined: Oct 2017 Posts: 32 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2017 Posts: 32 | Yes I have had a letter from them and they want proof of the year of the truck, I sent in the title with the year on it, but because there was that letter D on the end of the Vin Number and not on the plateof truck they are being picky. I know its a 52 but try telling them that. Thanks Howard | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,214 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,214 | The "VW" in your serial number identifies the year as 1952 and Series as 6400 SW = 1949 6400 TW = 1950 6400 UW = 1951 6400 VW = 1952 6400 The format changed in 1953... Perhaps the serial number info in 1952 Chevrolet Truck information kit will make them happy. Show them a copy of page 57 with the serial number info. GM Info Kit
