I'm new to the forum here but had a question about putting a 1968 292 6 cylinder in my 1949 chevy 4400. Does anyone sell a side motor mount kit to adapt the 292 to the 49 frame or is it a custom build? Otherwise will the 292 fit? Thanks George

Hy KingG, welcome, I just wanted to warn you that the 292 is the only GM six cylinder engine that I know of that does not have the engine mounts inline with one another. As far as I can remember the 292 is longer than the 216/235/261 engines, but I think the swap is doable with a little radiator relocating, hope that helps.

I think I had heard from years ago you had to move the radiator forward some but not much. I haven't measured it yet but I'm guessing I could bolt the side mounts from the '68 to my 49 frame. I'm going to use the 68 transmission and 2speed rearend also. It will be nice to have the extra gears for hauling with the 2 speed axle.

My 52 3 ton had a 292 put into it when I got it. They'd fabricated some perches by welding 1/4" plates on the frame to hold the 292 mounts. Haven't been able to tell if any other changes made. Keep in mind it's a Canadian model, so it's chassis is more GM than Chevy.
