I do metal refinishing on the side but use chemical coatings like parkerizing, not painting. You see my kind of finishes on tools, gears and a lot of ferric steel stuff. I need help on understanding the different kinds of paint used on trucks. Polyurethane, urethane, enamel, etc. What works or doesn't work with what? Starting with self etching primeres, so called 2K primers, right up to clear coat. Is there a site I can visit to try and understand all this. I retired from a facility that did nuclear physics research. That was easier to understand. At least there they told you what was in a can, not that it was bad for you in seven different languages. Thanks for the help

MARTINSR has submitted a lot of fine articles on "Basics of Basics" regarding body work. Take a look at this article about painting materials and products.

Howdy beltfed,

first I noticed you are just up the road from me,I live near Bristol just a mile from the speedway, we should get together sometime and compare notes!!

I like Du'ponts site for instructions and explanation of different finishing products and paints.

The only drawback is Du'ponts site is not very user friendly, you will need to search around the site for the information you are looking for.

I would suggest you do a search on the Du'pont site using the keywords Refinishers Magazine and see what comes up there and follow the links to the info you are looking for.

Good luck, Hobert
