For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2017 Posts: 53 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2017 Posts: 53 | I have been looking at an IFS conversion kit for my 49GMC 1/2 ton. This is a project I bought this spring and am now just getting into it. It is a frame off project that is now ready to start putting it back together. I prepped the frame and it's sitting in my garage. My question is I found a IFS on ebay (actually a number of them). They appear to be Helix but are being sold by Steve's House of Speed and Mass Distribution LLC. They both list it at the exact same price with free delivery. Has anyone used this kit or bought from either of the listed sellers? Steve's has many positive reviews and claims to be sell on ebay for 30 years. Mass Dist has just a few reviews so I would guess they are new to ebay. The few reviews are positive. The price seems much lower than ordering from the Helix site which causes my to be a bit hesitant and I'm looking for any feed back, it would be greatly appreciated, I'm looking to place an order in the next week.

Chassis Engineering has a good one for 1500 and Fatman has a heavy duty one for around 1750. If you want a lot of bling the Heidt's Superide polished everything is about 2300.

Both went on PERFECTLY. Follow the detailed instructions as to which rivets to remove and the order of installation and you won't miss. I used their sway bars on the coupe and the cornering is suburb. Alignment shop was able to get it right on spec as well. I choose the bolt on unit as the older frames were designed to flex and you might experience stress cracks on a welded one. You will I am sure find various opinions on this. All hardware is supplied but I switched to grade 8 as I like overkill. Good luck with the project. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 36 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 36 | Chassis engineering has closed. I just ordered one of their rear spring kits last week and did receive it yesterday. I don't know if you can still get one through Summit racing or not. I have never had a issue with Heidts or any of the other weld in kits. you box the rails in anyways so it should not be a problem. I actually like the weld in kits better because they don't look so clumsy after they are installed vs the bolt in style. Each to his own. I have 35000 miles on my truck and about the same on my coupe both have Heidts fronts under them. never had an issue with either one. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 1,775 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 1,775 | Chassis engineering has closed. That’s too bad, I’ve found their products to be top notch. Good, fast service too. I’ve been looking into ifs also. I like the kits from Full Tilt and Street Rod Engineering. They look to be about as heavy duty as it gets, not terribly priced either. If you want an economy kit, CPP looks to have pretty good deals and lots of options. The JW rod garage look to be good quality and good price too.
