My 51 was purchased with a 2X10 wooden bumper as required by Alabama State law ("SMILE" just kidding) The orginal OEM rear bumper is MIA. I know the OEM rear bumpers are slightly different than the OEM front ones (less curvature)Yet I am contemplating installing a spare front bumper on the rear as a substitute.
Are the front and rear bumper brackets different? Can they be interchanged, if so, do they need any modifications prior to installation?
Any Tips?

I had my truck for years before I was told I had a front bumper on the rear. The PO had used heat to bend the rear brackets (which ARE different from the front) to fit the front bumper on the rear.

Don't use heat, you will make the bracket brittle and when you DO find a real rear bumper you will then have to locate another set of proper rear brackets.

If you're asking if a front bumper-bracket COMBINATION will work on the back, I am not sure but I doubt it for the frame spacing is wider in the rear, get the picture?

I've got to tell you only the more experienced 'bolter can even tell if you are using a front bumper on the rear if you can get one to fit.

Let me know if you want my old-made-to-fit-a-front-bumper-on-the-rear brackets. A piece broke off when i tried to use them to install my real rear bumper, will need to be welded back on.

Email me if interested, can send pictures to show you what you are getting into.
