Have reservations at Staunton/Walnut Hills KOA. Pulling in with the family on August 24th and leaving on the 27th. Will be attending the Antique truck show at Whites Travel Center on the 25th. If things work out, may try a visit to the Outpost one evening. Maybe I'll catch up with some of the ODSS gang in the area.

Attention!

There will be a full ODSS inspection on the show grounds!

Better be ready to show our southern VA folks what the ODSS is all about!

All y'all,

The Sergeant At Arms has informed me that Inspection of ODSS Members will be inclusive but not limited to: empty ash trays, working seat belts, at least 78% Nitrogen as a part of air in the tires, working horns, etc. Failure in inspection results in push-ups. Good Luck Men!

Cosmo .... What kind of bad crack have you been hitting on????? That's no ODSS Inspection!!! In an "ODSS Inspection", you have the hydration check (1 12-pack (cold) in the cooler -- 10-oz beer constitutes MAJOR FAIL), The nutrition check (1 party pack Doritoes in the seat, opened and ready to eat and the 24-pack Billy Brats ready to go on the grill), The Safety check (personal folding chair properly set up on a level surface away from the road, ready for viewing Peterbilts whilst in an inebriated state ...), Hygiene check (personal roll of butt wipes and air freshener spray for the nasty port-o-me) and Continuing Education program (Smokey and the Bandit DVD cued up in RV DVD player).

I would think *YOU* of all people would be the last person to put "Horn" on any kind of an inspection .... wink Just sayin ...

from the desk of yer prez...

John, John, John,

Highlighted above in my post for your edification...

Of Course! My additions were merely cautionary in nature to The ODSS GUIDEBOOK, 7th edition, Chapter 8, (all content) that you so clearly cut and pasted! Your submission is the standard bearer, mine a mere scribbling missive of notes taken late at night, Scotch whiskey fueled, Winchester last, while half-listening to SWEET'S somewhat inebriated rambling lecture (at a hastily constructed dais of his own construction) roughly entitled: "I'm going to use an electric fan with relay and thermostat !"....nary an open eye (or ear) was seen about the campfire. Can I get a witness or an 'Amen' to the fact that the aforementioned actually occurred?

Thanks for the upgrade John!

Trying to get a hold of the schedule so that a trip to the outpost and maybe an ODSS families dinner can be arranged and then still be able to see the fireworks display on Saturday evening for the daughter and whomever else is interested. We will be coming into town on Thursday evening late. Thinking a get together on Friday evening. Then the show on Saturday. Ideas and input from the locals would be greatly appreciated. In our camping party staying at Staunton/Walnut Hills KOA will be My Wife and I and daughter Kayla, Artie Guy, Steve(Frank58)Evans and his two sons and Steves brother Bob. I have no idea who else is coming with Bob. This trip is looking like a really fun trip.

ok, I talked to the guy from White's that is organizing the show.

Here is what he told me.
Fri, BBQ for participants, Music and DJ.
7- 11PM
Sat,
show,
3-11 music
fireworks

I asked if he could arrange for us to park togther, that we would be arriving at separate times, he said he will accommodate that.
He was super helpful.

So, I will need a pretty accurate count of who is bring a truck. He will help us with registration (if you haven't already done that) .

Can you let me know if you are bringing a truck>
Here is what I know so far
Cosmo
Sweet
Phillip
Grigg
Alec
Mikey (attending, but not sure if with truck)

Maybe a couple more locals I am working on . (38 GMC)

thanks.
Alec

For the guys and gals traveling in for the show, where are you staying? I know Mike R is camping off-site. Anyone camping on-site? I was thinking I might drive down Saturday morning and drive home Sunday...where's a good place to crash for Saturday night?

Whites has a discount at the comfort inn if you mention that you are going to the truck show. I do not know that there is any camping on site.

what are you going to be driving. I will get you registered.

I think that the stovebolters are making more plans for Sat, but not finalized yet.

Alex,

Looks like I can register for the truck show online, which I'll do when I have all my plans set in stone...is there a registration deadline?

I think I'll drive the Pickup because it's got AC...

Crickets may still be under the rocks since the gathering is to take place in the future. Unless you refer to pre show pictures which might include odss boys begging their wives to fill the gas tanks in their trucks.

Great time today.

An Official ODSS Beer Medalion to Alec for setting up a great spot for all of us to be together. It was impressive to see the turnout of Stovebolts and familiar faces from the Tri State show.

I left this morning and bee lined it to the President's home. After my complete garage inspection and reprimand for slow 261 progress we headed through Virgina's great countryside to the show.

We spent the day talking trucks and catching up. It was also great to see Jr Stovebolters Kayla, and Michael.

After mid afternoon, Cosmo and I headed home. But we made a pit stop at DB's Basecamp by driving the wildest road I've ever driven in the old truck. Brakes smoking, downshifting run over the mountain. I almost want to go back and drive it again tomorrow.

Dinner and cold beer, we head home.

Thanks again Alec for a great day!

Woo Hoo!!!

Great time at the truck show on a temperate day within sight of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains! Presidential Award to Alec forthcoming for his efforts! We were received like rock stars and our gathering of Stovebolts drew a good share of attention.

Grigg displayed his exceptionally crafted tandem ice cream maker which drew a lions share of attention and kept Grigg busy with explanations the entire afternoon. Tim Welsh brought his 1947 Jeep with its stout 146 cubic inch power plant and its desirable and rare overdrive transmission. I was busy encouraging people to have a seat in my truck to "...get the feel of the oversized steering wheel", (needed for non-power steering leverage), the sight lines of driving an old truck and of course the smells of an old vehicle.

I'd like to assure you all gentle readers that we represented the old truck hobby the best of our abilities to a man.

The Shifflett boys representing the esteemed ATHS SHENANDOAH CHAPTER were actively stumping for The 50th Annual ATHS NATIONAL MEET, in the year of our Lord, 2021, to be held at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds in Harrisonburg, VA. IMHO, they present a strong case as it is a very nice venue with many side trip historical and recreational destinations for out of town guests.

Sweet and I ventured over the Blue Ridge Mountains, destination Devil's Backbone Brewery via route 56, a combination of switch backs and hair pin turns not recommended for the faint of heart. What a great ride to share with a great friend.

Thanks for the endorsement Tim.
The parkway itself was not too bad.
Coming off the parkway down Hwy 56 to Steele's Tavern was interesting though.
Several times we took up both lanes, on the sharp turns.
I don't remember meeting a car on any of those turns either.
The next day was the New River Gorge.
We unhooked the trailer before driving down to the river.
Really glad we did.
Beautiful mountains and hope to go back thru them next spring.

Don
