THe clutch is a 26 spline Made in Brazil 10+1/2" with little wear. However If I were to replace the clutch and pressure plate any recommendations? Could the clutch be an Astrovan clutch?

You can install an 11" clutch with 26 splines if you prefer. I have the info listed on my T5 resource list. Thank you, that gives me a direction to go.

After much research, although my salvage yard non world class (standard) T5 trans had what I believe was Dexron II in it, I decided to run Pennzoil Synchro, as I discovered that each car manufacturer that used the T5 in their cars specified whatever they wanted as a lubricant, because Brog Warner did not specify a lubricant when they made the transmission.... Dexron II no longer being available, and Dexron III being sold as a replacement, but those two fluids seem very different to me... and there seems to be a growing number of guys running the Synchro oil who are having good luck with it.

I have a friend who runs a transmission shop in Atlanta. They specialize in manual trannys for Mustangs and have serviced and rebuilt many T5s. He recommends either Synchromesh or Dex/Merc. Synchromesh is a bit thicker and runs quieter. Dex/Merc is a recommended substitute for Dexron III and allows for quicker shifting (so they say). I use Synchromesh in mine.

I suppose it's specifically formulated for our T5 WC applications that require ATF? Type lll back comparable to Type ll, which is what we can't find.

"Correct fluid to use with the T5 WC boxes is either Dexron/Merton lll or Mobil1 Synthetic ATF". The second question I asked was; Does the Borg Warner and Tremec 5 speed boxes take the same fluid? I did not get a response to that question. So I guess we've beat this enough.

I didn't ask about NWC. Here's the number 800-401-9866.

I can't remember who it was here on the Stovebolt, but they owned an S10 with a NWC T5. They went out and looked at the owners manual in the glove box to check what tranny fluid was required. The owner's manual said Dexron II for the NWC T5. I have heard that the really early T5s used gear oil. Can't go wrong with Dex/Merc for a NWC T5. | | | | Joined: Oct 2016 Posts: 916 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2016 Posts: 916 | Norcal Dave,

When G.M. started back servicing all of their automatics back to the '40 w/ Dexron VI they relabeled Dexron III as 88861800 Manual transmission & Transfer case fluid. the reason I was given by G.M. is Dex VI is semi-synthetic & not validated for seals & sealant used on older manual transmissions & transfer cases.

Got it, I understand now why GM came up with the 88861800. Thank you.
