i,m sure this has been addressed before, but i can,t find a link to it. 1947 and earlier had two tone paint jobs as an option, 2nd 1947's supposedly did not, now i,ve found a picture of a 2nd 1947 3100 with two tone paint job. my question is where can i find a paint chart/sample of two tone paint job for my 47 3100

Two-tone exterior paint jobs were not available as an RPO on Chevrolet Advance-Design trucks until sometime in the 1954 model year (white upper-body and other-color lower-body). Two-tone paint jobs (such as, fenders one color and body another color) could most likely be purchased any year as a special order.

I do not recall any other tu-tone option other
than the fenders being painted a different color that the body...However, I have seen some really nice custom tu-tones... :p BB

I like the way the black fenders look but I want to keep the truck as original as possible. Of course if it was not special ordered with the black fenders then I suppose I couldn’t paint them and still have it be as it came from the factory, could I!

Look at any of the existing GM documentation (resto pack, factory assembly manual, master parts manual, etc.) and you will see the lists of the RPO colors. Basically, for all of the 53 and earlier Advance Design trucks, you could buy your truck with the standard color (green or black) or choose one of the factory RPO colors.

For large, commercial, fleet orders, GM would paint the trucks however the customer ordered, including two tone. I doubt that individuals could get a custom, two-tone paint job from the factory, though a dealer might agree to custom paint a truck for a customer after they received it from the factory.

Jeff's answer to your question is a good one.

There were no two-tone A-D RPOs until 1954 (except one green/green combination for Carryall Suburban upper/lower body in at least some early years). Even in 1954/55, there were no two-tone fender/body RPOs.

I know of no documentation to prove the availability of any specific special-order two-tone combinations in 47-53.

There is a document called the "Silver Book" that described available specially equipped truck bodies (vocational equipment). That book might have information on special order paint combinations. There is a photograph/drawing of black fenders and a colored body on a special equipment 1/2 ton truck in the 1949/50 Truck Data Book.
