Hi All,

I am disassembly my grill to paint the grill support. My truck, a 1950 1/2 ton is forester green. It had been repainted poorly sometime in its history. I have discovered that the grill support was a white color. Is this common combination, a green truck with a white grill support? Or, has my support replaced?

I do not know grill parts terminology, but I have read that in 1950/51 the grill "backsplash bars" were white.

My grill bars are stainless. I mean the bars that support the stainless bars. They look to be originally white but poorly painted over in green.
Does anyone have pictures of a green truck and white grill suppoer?

Here's one to get you started

The back splashes (inner bars) are supposed to be Waldorf White for a 1950 truck. Read more about it here. I found th rattle can appliance white you can get at Lowe's/Home Deport/ etc works very well for those inner bars/backsplashes. Holds up very well and is easy to apply.

Do you also paint the "back stop" white?

Is there "back-stop" sheet metal on both sides of the radiator grill?

It's been 41 years since I have had a 47-53 grill off/apart.

My grill the horizontal bars are white. The vertical bars are white. The end vertical bars appear to be green.

Does this seem correct?

rc356s -- Yes, if your body color is green.

According to my reference ("Standard Catalog of American Light Duty Trucks, 2nd Ed." John Gunnell, Editor):

Outer Bars are body color (chrome was optional)
Inner bars and vertical supports are Waldorf white
side pieces (vertical) are body color.

Here are some pictures of an original '49 Grille same as a '50. This grille is from a 4400 series truck, but other than dimensions, the color scheme, design and layout is the same as your '50. Look through all the pictures in that group to see the grille disassembly and restoration. It was pretty straightforward and I enjoyed doing it. Jim Carter's grille kit made it easy to put back together (erector set ).

Thank those are great pictures. One thing I found out is my outer bars are chrome. I always believed theme to be stainless.
They need a good polish and the underside is rusty and need a rust treatment of some kind.?

A stainless steel grill was never an option on any Advance-Design truck.

A chrome grill came standard some years, but I think the grill was painted in 52-53
A chrome grill was optional in 54/55st (a different style compared to 47-53).
