Does anyone make 6v replacement batteries for vintage cars/trucks any longer? I have searched several sites like optima, Lucas, and Duracell, but I can't find a 6v for my 235. When I search those sites by year, manufacture, engine and model, they will pull up batteries that will fit, but they are all 12v. My project truck is a 1949 half ton with a 1954 235, and is still set up as a 6v system. Eventually, I will do the 12v conversion, but I just want to get it running now as is
I'm sure there are golf cart, and atv 6v batteries that would work, but I have no idea what to look for. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I apologize if this has been covered already. When I searched the forum I found several threads, but nothing on a specific manufacturer or model number.
Thanks in advance

not sure why you can`t find the 6V Optima here:
https://www.optimabatteries.com/en-...l=Truck&engine=L6-3.5L&find=find
any local parts store should be able to get you a 6V battery^, lotsa different brands out there

The 6v battery died on my 51 last fall while at a week long chuck wagon race event (http://www.chuckwagonraces.com/). Called the local O’Reillys and they had one in stock. Exactly the correct size with a resent production date. These batteries also fit a lot of old farm tractors which is why I suspect it was in the store.

If your store doesn't have one is stock they should be able to order it. As I recall it was a little less than a $100 maybe high 80's.

added in edit: Try this

Good Luck

Man, I tried searching by vehicle, year, engine and got 20 results but all were 12v. Thanks for the link.

I'll check out O'Reily's as well. When I called Autozone, they said that they didn't carry 6v any more, so I guess that's what got me going down the path that they weren't available. Thanks for the assistance guys!

Here you go- - - - -about 30 seconds on the O'Reilly website:

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/d..._1430923_1265&pt=N0369&ppt=C0327

Search "Group 1 6 volt" on any major parts supplier's website.

Auto Zone has 6volt Optima batteries. They do carry them, some is new or lazy.

My 2 cents, I put in an 8 volt battery many years ago and for me it has worked very well. It did require me to adjust the voltage regulator. Starter spins like twice as fast and I did not have to change any bulbs or gauges.
This was advertised for hard to start farm tractors at the farm and fleet store maybe 20 years ago and had instructions for adjusting the regulator. (one screw, but I don't remember which one).

A good old farmers' fix for 6v trucks that had too small gauge battery cables and/or corroded battery connections.

I'm sure this was the target market at the time. In my case I never had a problem with starting, I liked the idea of brighter headlights, tail lights ect. along with a hotter spark, and the faster crank speed was a plus. The clincher was adjusting the voltage regulator so everything else was totally seamless.

Memories, ****** Probably 40 years ago we had a grain truck, 6 volt, and the local fuel/ tire/ battery/ snowmobile/ oil/ cigarette/ oleo/ (anybody remember oleo?) distributor sold us an 8 volt battery that had a post at 6 volts and a solenoid that connected the other cell when you hit the key to start, supplying 8 volts for starting only. I have no idea how it charged back up.

Sorry this is looking like a hijack, my bad, I hope Sulli has found a good farm store for that 6 volter.
