Hello, folks. I ran across this forum while looking into a truck I just bought. This place gave me a similar vibe to a few other good forums I've used for motorcycles and other vehicles, so I figured I would give it a go. I'd put money on me pretty much just lurking, but just wanted to say hello and thanks in advance for all of the help I am sure to find.

Details on truck:

1963 Chevy C10 - 1/2 Ton, Fleetside, LWB, 2WD, Regular Cab, 6 cyl, 4 spd on floor.

I am fairly sure it has the smaller of the two 6cyl engines, but will verify later. I was told by the PO that it was the original engine and trans, plus a factory beefed up rear end and suspension. My dad said he bought the same model/year when new and says his was the same config, so that sounds promisingly possible.

Looks like I will have to wait to post pics on here (or learn how) but here is an attempt at a link to one:

I bought the truck from a guy in central WA, who found it at an orchard about 11 yrs ago. It seems to run really well from initial testing, but I have yet to look into it seriously. I'm not planning a restoration, but will instead do minor repairs while I use it to run errands and for wrench-based therapy.

Hopefully once I address what appears to be a leaky master cyl, broken drivers window, and refresh the rubber bits, it will be a solid daily driver.

Later, everyone.

Niemand, welcome to the Stovebolt and congrats on your "new" pickup. Around here we feel "Knowledge is the Best Resource" and there are plenty of guys here willing to share theirs.
We also have "vin buster" in the tech tips so spend a little time looking at the links, tech tips and gallery.
You may already know it but there is a forum for the 60-66 trucks so be sure to check it out. Ask any questions you may have in the most appropriate garage forum and let us help you on your journey. Don't be shy to ask questions. Be safe rather than sorry as the saying goes.

Welcome Niemand (Niemand is the Dutch word for nobody) Have fun with it. I thought they offered 3 different 6 cylinder engines, not 2. The 230, 250 and 292. Doesn't matter, as long as it runs.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. The relevant truck section is what drew me here actually. And I saw the VIN decoder too, thanks.

I'll be sure to dig into older posts while running through issues with the truck.

Looks like a great resource here. See you guys around.

Welcome Niemand
I had access to three new 63's when I was a teen, so I have a soft spot. You may know that that year only had it'sown grill
and the hub caps were only used for 61,2 & 3.
Leo is correct about only three six's The K series 4x4 got the old Stovebolt engine but the C series 2x4 got the new 230 or the 292. The 250 replaced the 230 in about 66. A 283 V-8 was also available.
We get to Spokane every year or so and vehicles survive well in central Wa. Have fun with your new truck.

Boxes of various parts to repair the known issues and refresh rubber bits have been arriving over the past few days. It's looking very good so far, with everything appearing to be original aside from the wheels and basic consumable stuff of course. After peeking at the blue build data tag on the driver side kick panel, it even looks like the paint is the original dark blue color. I'm guessing a clear coat was added at some point, but the tag data matches what I see so far. (even has assembly inspection numbers on it still)

The engine is indeed the 230, but I need to get a look the digits on it to verify it is original. So far there is no reason to doubt it though. It is running nicely and handling great after some fresh tires.

Well, I'm off to dig up some "how to" info on here. See you guys around.

Yep; German as well. I use it as my handle on several sites I lurk on as a meager attempt at anonymity. I was born in Germany then raised pretty much everywhere other than the states until the end of high school, when my dad retired from the military. (talk about culture shock...hehe.)

Niemand, thanks for the additional information.....and the "assembly inspection numbers" or marks are a topic here fairly often. It'd be nice to take a pictures of them and post for all to see, and save them for posterity. We love pictures.

Sounds like your well on your journey so continued good luck wished for you. Remember, any technical question is best asked, and answered, in the most appropriate garage forum.
