Can anyone help me on this please ? I have a 1950 1/2 ton AD pickup,both front stub axles have badly worn threads.Not an easy repair,I have been offered a complete axle from a 1955 truck.Happy to buy it but its nearly a 6 hour round trip to get it. The part numbers are different for kingpin kits for 41-54 and 55-59 model years, but I can't find any part numbers for the actual stub axles.So are the stub axles the same ?

That is known as a steering knuckle. If you look here at the GM Parts catalog GM Listings you will see that they have one part number for 46 to 50 and another for 51 to 57. By the notes it is the same forging but the later setup has larger holes. If you used the 51 brake setup on the front, I think it would be fine. That is the year that they went to the Bendix style brakes.

The only difference between the 1950 and earlier, and the 1951-59 spindles are the two lower bolt holes were enlarged from 7/16" to 1/2".
It would be easy to make bushings to fit in the spindles to bush the 1/2" holes down to 7/16"

And I had to throw in spindle, for another name for the same part.

If only they made new ones... I see that new car spindles are available, though. I am guessing that the car spindles cannot be made to work?

Mmm, it would be nice if I could get new ones - even if it meant waiting for shipping AND the cost of it. I'm just hoping the 55 axle will be OK. Want to get it roadworthy for the summer.
