Truck is a 58 1/2 ton with stock front end. I'm in the middle of a disk brake conversion on the front. My 60-61 15" wheels no longer fit. It doesn't look like grinding is a solution. Based on my measurements, both Wheelsmith, and Wheel Vintiques told me their 15" wheels won't fit either.

Has anyone had any luck running 16" 6x 5.5 4" backspace tires on this type of truck? I would either run p225 or p215 75's for tires. When I'm finished with this project I will file a complete report. I have done multiple searches on the question of 16" tires and came up empty. I did see some threads about wheels from 70's GM 4x4's that might fit. Any help or info you could share would be appreciated.

Tim, 16" rims were a factory option on the Task Force half tons. I had a set off a '57 3100 for a project, but I went a different direction so I sold them on the Swap Meet. The have the same six lug pattern and use the same hubcaps as the 15".

I don't think that they are that hard to find in salvage yards. You might want post in the parts wanted section of the Swap Meet.

Thanks you for the reply. I was not aware that 16's were an option. I got on the GM Heritage site and saw that there were two different size tires listed in the specs. The first was the 6.70-15-4 pr. The second was a series of numbers I cannot decode-- 7-15.5-6-pr, unless its just a taller 15" tire. (7.00-15)

Is there a link to where the info on factory options in 58 is posted?

Tim, the attached link is to the truck specs for a '57. Scroll down to page 135. It shows the 16" optional rims for the 3100's and 3200's with the same lug pattern as the 15". Rim size is 16x5. Would be the same for a '58.

I am going to run the factory 16" rim with the Coker Classic Radials 7.50 x 16.

16" factory rims on a 1959 GMC 1/2 ton with stock suspension - tires are Coker 7.50 x 16
