Hi guys just jumped into the brakes on my 1950 3/4 ton and ran all new lines and new master cylinder, I was going to try and take it for her 1st spin in 30 + yrs and knock some dust off of her and see if the wheel cylinders on there still might work? Worth a shot ? I ran into a snag with the rear wheel cylinders semi frozen and corroded and figuring the front will likely be similar.
I've been looking napa, autozone etc for a quick turn around but no luck, went to classic & ecklers and all I keep getting is 51-55 and not specific for 3/4 ton .
The wheel cylinder that are coming off are front 1 1/4 & rears are 1 3/8.
Wasn't sure if anyone could pass on some good product info & knowledge.
Greatly appreciated for the help!

CJD,

On my '36 pickup the front and rear wheel cylinders are different sizes but they appear to be machined from the same casting. So you can probably make "new" 1 3/8" cylinders by boring the 1 1/4" cylinders in a lathe. Just as in boring an engine cylinder the last cut will be very light to give a nice surface and the final surface can be made with a wheel cylinder hone. I'd give that a try.

I encountered stuck wheel cylinder pistons when redoing the brakes on my wife's 1961 Mercedes 190SL. Penetrating oil made from a 50%-50% mix of acetone and atf and a big clamp were able to removed them no sweat. That may be worth a try.

I admire your courage to replace that whole system- every single item on my 3/4 ton brake system was toast (including the drums), and that contributed to my decision to swap out the rear axle and change to modern brakes all around...those 3/4 ton brake parts aren't cheap! Jim Carter has the wheel cylinders, at

Thanks guys appreciate the guidance,
And I think adventually NorCal Dave I'll probably do the rear swap later down the road , but I want to experience a true 1950 in action. Little ruff, not a speed demon, it will stop but not fast , but she''ll be fun to drive around and she what she made of.
Thanks again

I have purchased these from Autozone, if any stores are around by you. I have had then shipped to store and I then pick them up. Much less costly then online. They usually have them available in less than 24 hrs.
