I believe you are correct that the trailing arms are different width. I can tell you from searching fruitlessly for a bolt on trailer hitch, the 60-62 has a unique frame width. Also the axles are an unusual width, and I suspect you'll have to accommodate something like 1.5" less on the '61. I think:
1. 60-72 new trailing arms are the same.
2. Axle width is the same from 60-69
3. If you find a 12 Bolt it should be fairly easy to swap.
4. May have to reposition spring perch or axle saddle.
5. If donor rear end does not have a panhard bar, there is a kit for that.
6. 12 bolt car axle may work?
7. No matter what anyone says, or what any chart says, you will, of course measure and contemplate before buying or beginning.

| | | | | Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 32 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 32 | Hello, The purpose is, eventually I'm putting a pretty stout v-8 in my truck and correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the twelve bolt a lot stronger rear end than the stock one I have? Also the twelve bolt is a posi trac. I'll have to do some measuring for sure, just thought I could get an answer from some one who's already done it. Like Nomad02 said, I also thought I read that somewhere. I never realized what odd balls the 60-62 trucks are till I got mine, but I still love it, nothing like just driving it around. Thanks for your replies.

You could have the same size ring gear as a 12 Bolt. The 12 bolt from 64-72 would be a good one to measure. Don't know what HP you are talking. 400HP is no problem for your 10 bolt.

Thanks. it is not a biggy. as with most changes there will be a little measuring and fabricating and matching parts Parts are much more avail for the later stuff than the 60-62 if required. you may have to relocate mounting for the trailing arms, length of panard bar? and hooking up the emerg brake. perhaps some d/shaft modification ron | | |
