I've got my original 1951 3600 brakes up in good shape and feel they work as well as stock Huck's should. However that said, I've been considering an upgrade so I can pull a Very light camping trailer with confidence stopping will not be to challenging.
If a comparable easy front axle upgrade pops up, I'm in.

In reality those calipers are expensive, or hard to find cores for them, and I've seen it mentioned several places that they're not the most effective parking brakes.
Which means if you don't have parking brake on the back of the transmission then converting to rear disc with those brackets might not be the best option. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 | As far as I know, you will need a Parking brake for safety inspections in every state. Cars haven't had Emergency brakes in decades. Trying to get rear discs (with little drums inside for brake shoes or mechanical pad hardware) to stop a vehicle that is moving at more than 5 mph is whistling in the wind. Most of them are poor parking brakes as well, because nobody ever uses them and they rust up. The most annoying thing I have to deal with is getting parking brakes to work once a year to pass inspection. Just figure out the minimum to get through your states requirements. And yes, if you have a driveshaft hand brake you're golden (if you drag it a couple times a year to get the rust off the drum). | | |
