I'm talking about a pumper truck type with a 750 gallon tank in the back. I have seen where the sides were cut down and all the fire apparatus removed, including the pump. Then make a wood floor and have a kind of large pickup(12 foot bed). I can't find the pic of the one that I had seen in the internet. If anyone has any pics or ideas I would appreciate it.A car hauler is in the plans, but right now I would just like to get it working for me. I'm planning to remove the driveline-mounted fire pump and replace it with a 3-speed Brownie to get 15 forward speeds and 3 reverse gears. I patched up a leaky head gasket and fixed some pretty serious brake problems. Ed flew to KC a week later and drove it the rest of the way to Colorado. It's got a 503 cubic inch inline six and a 5 speed OD trans. Jerry

I just checked and it's around 750 miles one way for you to get to the Homecoming.
I'm guessing that your 2 wheeler will get a 50 mpg.
The LaFrance will get about 3 mpg.
Lets say fuel is $2.50 a gallon.
The bike fuel cost is $37.50
The LaFrance fuel cost is $625.00.
And that is only one way cost!

Every time I roll over in my sleep, I fall off the seat! I'll probably be driving the old Aerostar van. It splits the difference at a little under 20 MPG.

My 305 v6 burns fuel like a space shuttle (and that's even when it's *NOT* on fire  ) -- I can't imagine one of the bigger ones... Back to the OP ... Have we figured this out yet? I'm waiting for my welder to tell me if the pump on my truck is scrap metal or repairable. If the former, I'm thinking of removing the tanker body and replacing with a dumping flatbed with a flip ball hitch for a gooseneck. We could get even crazier and shorten the frame to make a duallie pickup out of it... Several ideas in play ...

The pump and associated plumbing (what's left of it) will be a freebie for anybody willing to come and get it. Ditto for the rest of the fire bed.
