I have a 41 suburban which would like a t-5 tranny. I have a 2000 S-10 but it seems from the other posts that that is not a good choice (or impossible). Any advice before I get under these things?

I would venture to guess your 2000 S10 doesn't have a T5. If the S10 has a 4.3L engine then it probably has an NV3500 (which has an integrated bell and the bell should have a common V8 bolt patter.) The NV3500 uses a hydraulic clutch system.
If you find that it really does have a T5, then it will have a FORD case pattern where it bolts to the bell.
If your Suburban has a Muncie pattern bell, then you could use a 1983-1993 S10 or S15 or Sonoma truck T5 because they also have a Muncie pattern. Your Suburban is heavier than a pickup but with normal driving it should be fine. If your Suburban has bucket front seats with room for a shifter to come up through the floor between the front seats, then you are in FAT CITY if you find a V6 or V8 Camaro/Firebird T5 (1983-1992). The shifter will come up further back (next to your thigh at the knee) but you will have a cable speedometer hookup to use. Just depends on what you want.
