purchased 1/2 ton axles for my 3600 and arranged for shipping. Plan to get the ol' gal up on blocks this afternoon and start jerking the 3/4 ton axles :-)

You might want to take a couple leaves out of the springs while its apart so it will ride a little better.

Reinstalled the engine and transmission with new clutch and pressure plate on new motor mounts. Before bolting the transmission up, emptied the grease and flushed out (a little wear noted, but no real damage anywhere). Hooked up fuel and vacuum lines lines, heater hoses, and starter / coil wiring. Had to modify the accelerator linkage (the donor 235 came from a sedan and the original truck linkage didn't fit up correctly on the the 235 block). Washed off the shocks with PB Blaster in anticipation of replacing pins and grommets. Gettin' closer...!

Yes that's the plan, but we all know how that can be messed up!!!
I picked up the new brakelines from Gregg Dist yesterday and today got a call from the local muffler shop, my new manifold to muffler pipe is ready to pickup also. They actually had the bend and dimension sheet and new flange hanging on the wall, very cool!
I have a neighbor that's helping me with the brakes so it will help with installing and bleeding. I'm also cleaning the tar like diff oil and replacing the rear axle seals just to be safe.

Temporarily supported the radiator to be able to run the engine and adjust the valves. Engine ran perfectly, but despite showing 20 lbs of pressure we never saw oil at the rockers. So, after removing the side cover and a little troubleshooting we concluded it simply must be at the cam bushing (the lifter galley was dry, too.. Started re-disconnecting everything and started turning bolts to the left. My biggest worry is I'll find the bushing holes perfectly lined up with the block holes... then I'll really be stumped.

Installed brake cables on 1-ton 47 dually. Had to re-tap the clevis hardware I got from Jim Carters. fine thread to coarse. Cables from brakeline specialties were a little short. May have to rethink attaching rod from brake handle mounted on SM-420

Buddy came over and welded in a floor brace for me under the drivers floor. Tomorrow - wire wheel underside of cab and POR-15 the underside.

A little late posting but was finally able to figure out how to rewire the music player that runs through the cigarette lighter. I installed a power port next to the steering column that is tied to the ignition switch.

Re-pulled 235 engine disassembled sufficiently to examined oil bores and passages from main bearings to rear cam bushing to lifter galley; also removed main oil galley rear plug... all clear. Stumped.. moving to the Engine Shop forum!

Got my 55 gmc 1st series radiator and heater core back from the radiator shop. looks great. they only paint the sides for cooling concerns so I'm thinking of polishing the upper tank.

I pulled the ignition switch apart , cleaned and re lubed it , reinstalled and all good again

interesting, will have to take a closer look at mine and see how it comes apart to do an inspection

started up the 235 for the first time in about 6 years, feels great to see it run on the first try

blanch53 , I bent back the tabs holding the switch assy together , it just falls apart , watch the orientation if bits , eh.

I always liked the look of the polished brass tank top.

I got a rock thru my screen last week so I sent my new (repro) frame in for glazing .
Nice job done , I go to fit it and the w/screen wont close !!

The rubber is too deep and the frame is too deep. total 10mm extra size ................... SPIT !

I'm going to try to raise the frame by packing the hinges up several mm. and slicing a few mm off the rubber .

If I can get the screws undone .

After prepping my wife's Toyota plastic front end pieces for repair (she ripped off a bunch of plastic on a curb) I welded on my 1/2 AD. I began to build new rear cross sill for the box.

Installed seat and floor mat.

Good Morning, I see a pattern here. Mrs.Fox & Mrs.Doyle each drive a Toyota. Mine just has a Dodge/Volvo.
But what I did was remove the battery for a service & charge.
The battery came out of the 55 because the heater core and blower motor need replacing.(it is called the great white north and we did have snow a few days ago.)First event of the season is next Wed. so I best get in motion.

After a long dry winter, Clyde has new front tires, new shock linage bushings (still didn't solve my noise) and a new fuel tank sender unit. Also discovered a small leak in the fuel tank somewhere around the 3/4 full mark... Project for this weekend.

About two months ago the exhaust pipe on my '50 had blown off at the flange at the manifold. I had tried to get the nuts off the studs by soaking them with Kroil but they hadn't moved and I just gave up trying. I forgot to post that last weekend I drove it to Midas to have it re-welded. They did a good job but I know it's really only a temporary fix until I can do it right by taking off the flange and having it welded correctly. Anyway, it sure sounds better and I can drive it again!

Oh, Gawd! Make it stop!
Just put water in the radiator and long story short, it's dripping out of the exhaust. Evidently someone allowed this engine to freeze. Hidden crack inside no. 3 and no.4 exhaust ports... located a replacement head.

I don't recall throwing anything away with a fresh coat of paint on it!!

Didn't say what you had, but if it is a 216, 235 head that's not uncommon.
I had to magnaflux 5 heads to find one without a crack.

Finally got my replacement w/screen center divider post and now have a lovely clear screen to look thru

Finally got the brakes fixed and got some new tires on the rear. Went with a mud type tire on the rear. Got tired of getting almost stuck on wet grass.

I've been riding around with a new transmission. A borg/warner world class t-5. What an absolutely enjoyable difference the 5 speed transmission makes over the old 3 speed. Feels like a completely different truck.
I've had the transmission for a couple years and just couldn't motivate myself to do the change, now looking back, I should kick myself for waiting. Would I do it again, in a HEARTBEAT.
Have to do some creative work on the shifter, but hopefully I will get that accomplished in the next few days.

Removed the distributor, cleaned out the old grease, fresh grease in, and ready for a test drive.

After 4 years of repair rebuild and cleanup I started the old girl up today.
I put 10 gallons of gas in the tank and after cranking with no plugs and checking the compression in all cyls all at (90 to 95 not to bad for being cold I'll check again with the engine warmed up). The fuel pumped into the bowl and up to the carb. A little dribble of gas down the air cleaner and with choke out fingers crossed I stomped on the starter. Within a couple of turns over what a amazing sound and feeling. Probably in a couple of days I'll take her out for a first drive.

Congratulations, the ultimate thrill accomplished.

Been prepping the '48 Burb for this weekends festivities (see Events Forum). Topped off the Freon in the A/C. Fixed a leak in the power steering and topped it off. Rain-xed the windshield in preparation for a rainy forecast weekend. Cleaned the inside door panels and dash. Got hot so came in for some iced tea. Wash/wax tomorrow and detail the wheels and tires. Then off to the show and cruise Saturday.🛠😎

Had issues with idle speed and shifting transmission. Tightened carburetor mounting nuts and readjusted the throttle cable and kick down cable. Fixed the problems. Cruise last night went well.🛠

I installed a new water pump on the 55.2 235. The original one worked great. This is for the second iteration of re-installing the engine...
Stovebolt Catch-up: (June 2016-today) engine developed rod knock @ less than 200 miles, I pulled the engine, a whole lot of life happened, the machine shop re-did the engine, and I'm about to get it back in the truck.

Even though its now in the 80s I worked on the heater,the heater I got must had the smallest motor ever made on it and I did pick up a small motor for a 39 car but it was still too long. I had to make new brackets to attach it to the housing and drill a hole so the rear bearing bulge on the motor would clear but I think its ready to assemble. Now to find the reproduction knobs I bought a few years ago.
