Earlier today I was in Home Depot getting supplies for a Gazebo we're putting the the front yard and came across a Rust-Oleum Paint called "Hammered".

They had several colors, I bought a can of the Gloss lack and tried it out, It looks real good on a piece of primed metal. I'll use this for my heater box under the dash.

Part number is 7215 Black. Comes in a 12 oz spray can. $4.99

I had Sweetie's wheels blasted & powder coated. While I was waiting to load them up I was looking at the display rack, checking out the different colors that can be coated. They had several hammertone finishes that really looked neat (there's a 21st century expression for you). grin

It is a great paint for pitted surfaces as it looks kinda pitted on flat panels and really hides inperfections on not so perfect surfaces. My buddy sprayed his frame on his 62 and it looks great. It has not been on the road yet so i do not know how durable it is.

I've had good luck with that paint. I with the black was closer to black though. It is more like charcoal to me. It holds up great and like Dale says hides a lot of rough work. I've used it for underneath things like front axle, spindles, etc.

I have a '50 3100 with deluxe heater. I have seen all the hammered paint colors out there. I know that the original heater had a hammered paint finish on it. What of the colors that are out there match best with the original finish. It is the black? Thanks in advance,
Steve O

Get some Hammerite Rust Cap, bronze color. It is made by the Kilz corporation, and is a spray can. It might be hard to find, but I found the brand at True Value hardware, but not that color, but they ordered it for me. Or you can get it from Eastwood. Follow the directions, and I guarantee you will be happy with the results.
