If the original rims aren't pitted where the bead of the tire rides, you can run tubeless radials on them. 215/85/R16 is what many use on original rims.

The tires are not very wide and I want a wider tire to give more of a modern look. I thought I would need a wider rim to get that effect. I bought a set for $40.00 and modified the center caps to hold my original hub caps. http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/ac112/Twotone_photos/My%20truck/20161029154701_zpslqwhki4z.jpg They work with the stock hubs and suspension and fit nice with a four inch dropped axle.

'87 or older 4x4, or '70 and older 2wd. Depending on how wide you want to go, you will need wider wheels. You can find the specifications on acceptable wheel widths for a given size tire from the manufacturer.

I too wanted to run radial tires, but also questioned sizes. I ended up with BF Goodrich Silvertown wide whites. I utilized 15"x7" wheels with P215/70R15 radials up front and 15"x8" wheels with P235/70R15 radials in the rear. Photos of the truck are below. The axles and hubs are stock on both ends. After initial installation I decided to add 1.25" spacers on the front wheels to bring them out the same distance to the fenders as the rear tires. The truck most likely steers a little harder than stock, but I don't really know because I have never driven one with the stock wheels. http://s1057.photobucket.com/user/michaelzahn/library/
